How to Order Your Bespoke Fused Glass Commission
Commissioning a piece of fused glass should be an enjoyable and inspiring experience. Whether you're looking for a statement artwork for your home, a meaningful gift, or a piece to commemorate a special occasion, I'll guide you through every step of the journey.
Step 1: Share Your Ideas
Everything starts with a conversation. You might already have a clear vision, or you may simply know the colours, style or feeling you'd like your artwork to capture. We can discuss:
- The size and shape of the piece
- Your preferred colour palette
- Where the artwork will be displayed or who it is for
- Any themes, memories or inspiration or places you'd like to include
- Your budget and timescale
Don't worry if you're not sure exactly what you want—that's all part of the creative process, and I will help you to develop your idea.
Step 2: Design & Quotation
Once we've discussed your requirements, I'll create a design concept and provide a quotation. This allows you to see how your ideas are coming together before any glass is cut or fused.
At this stage, we can make adjustments to ensure the design feels just right. My aim is to create a piece that is perfect for you
Step 3: Handcrafting Your Artwork
Once the design has been approved, I'll begin creating your commission by hand in my studio. Each layer of glass is carefully selected, cut and arranged before being fired in the kiln at high temperatures.
Many pieces require several kiln firings to achieve the desired shape, texture and finish. Because every stage is completed by hand, no two commissions are ever exactly alike.
Step 4: The Finishing Touches
After firing, your artwork is inspected, cleaned and finished with great care. If your piece requires mounting, framing or a display stand, these final details are completed before collection or delivery.
Delivery or Collection
When your commission is complete, I'll contact you to arrange collection or secure delivery. Your artwork will be carefully packaged to ensure it arrives safely and ready to enjoy.
